About CARA
Community Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc. (CARA) is a "no-kill" organization that cares for almost 300 dogs & 40 cats. We have even been known to have gerbils, guinea pigs, a goat, a pig, & many rabbits in our care.
Jerri Bennett and Janet Madden, met through an organization known as "Pet Theft
Action" in 2000. They decided to start their own rescue group. Meeting Pat Sellers
along the way, they became known as Clinton Animal Rescue & Adoption.
Shortly after that, on March 31, 2001, Clinton Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc.
became an incorporated identity. Before the end of summer, Daphne Karl &
Sharon Pritchard came onboard. Through the kindness of her heart, Shannon Canard
of Shannon's TLC located in Clinton, allowed CARA to establish their rescue
shelter in her facility. Having grown too big for her building, CARA
leased a building on Hwy 18 in Jackson. We moved in September 2002. At the end
of our lease, we bought a 30,000 sq.ft. warehouse on 8 acres of land located at
960 N. Flag Chapel Rd. in Jackson. Because we serve the tri-county area, we
changed our name to Community Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc.
Sadly to say, on October 13, 2005,
Pat Sellers passed away. Pat, you are forever in our hearts and on our minds.
She is and always will be truly missed.
